In 2005, Brentwood Union School District implemented LocateMySchool.com, a web-based street locator
program used to identify school attendance areas by address lookup. The benefits of this program were
two-fold.
Prior to implementation, the Information Technology department was responsible for visiting each of the
ten school sites and installing street directory updates to each computer used by school office personnel.
The first major benefit to the district was deploying the web-based application to ensure that all school and
district employees were working with the same street directory information. This eliminated error and was a
major time-savings of personnel.
Once bombarded with phone calls from real estate agents and prospective home-buyers, the second
major benefit the district administration credits the implementation of LocateMySchool.com with is a major
reduction in inquiries for school attendance area information. "LocateMySchool.com has helped to keep
our rapidly growing community informed of the school that their student would attend." says Gayle
Crockett, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, "It is available through our website and allows
parents and other community members to access this information at their convenience and insures that
everyone has the same data as it draws from a common file which is updated as soon as we receive
information pertaining to the addition of new neighborhood development. The tech staff is happy as they
are no longer required to install specific programs on individual computers. This feature has become
integral to our daily operation."
